The story of DFPA

The story of DFPA begins with a group of female doctors' desire for change.
Sex & Samfund startede i 1956 med en gruppe unge kvindelige læger, som krævede forandring.

The year is 1956. A group of female Danish doctors have long seen how many young girls and women get into trouble because of unwanted pregnancies.

The doctors have a desire to help. With doctor Agnete Bræstrup in front, they found the Association for Family Planning. A whole 17 years before abortion becomes free in Denmark.

Still a private membership association

Today we are called DFPA, but we are still a private membership association. We are still fighting many of the important battles that Agnete and the other doctors started back then.

We still have a burning desire to help. We are still one of the strongest advocates for sexual rights and reproductive health. We still stand guard over very basic human rights. Both at home and abroad. From the beginning, we have been a member of the IPPF, the world's leading family planning organization.

Together we have made history

Time and again we have made history, but only because there are a lot of us who have stood together and fought over the years. Together we introduced compulsory sexual education in primary schools. And abortion became legal in Denmark.

For over six decades, we have informed about birth control. We have fought for the rights of women and LGBTI+ people. And we have seen how, with joint help, we have changed an indescribable number of people's lives for the better.

Do you want to join us?

DFPA is here because there are still many of us who know how important our work is - and how necessary it is that we continue.

Fortunately, there are many of us who, like Agnete and the other doctors at the time, also passionately want to make a difference. If you want to be a part of history and fight with us, join us into the future.
